Steely Paupher grew up an only child in a loving family in Houston. Her rather ordinary life is turned upside down in eighth grade when her father is tragically killed. Her mother falls into debilitating depression, leaving Steely to search for anyone that will give her work. Unable to accept the story surrounding her father’s death, she seeks to fi nd the truth, which starts her on a path mired down with illegal narcotics and human traffi cking.Along her path, she meets David Hunter, the handsome scion of an oil services company. The two marry, but soon after she becomes entangled in the near collapse of the Hunter Family’s billion dollar company, JHI. All the while, the Hunter Family matriarch, Beatrice, who considers Steely “barely kin,” does her best to run her off. Steely’s longtime friend, Nick Dichiara, is an executive at the Hunter’s company. His vigilante tendency leads him to risk his career and life to catch those responsible for the destruction of JHI. His junkyard dog approach sends shockwaves through the organization, prompting Steely to make the ultimate move to tangle with one of the most sought after sociopaths in all of Texas.
