Heliosvart Pampleverte-Plunkenstorm never asked for a name that sounded like a thunderclap, or for the swarm of voices stirring inside his head to wake up now, of all times. It's the 1960s, and nobody has a word yet for a mind like his. Not doctors. Not teachers. Certainly not Blazenthrop, the school that's already decided he belongs at the bottom of the class and has stopped looking any further. Yoyo isn't lazy, or stupid, or trouble, though those are the only words anyone around him has to reach for. He is, in fact, hosting an entire Psychoswarm: a crowded, chaotic, brilliant parliament of voices that the world has no name for yet, and no patience for either. Not every voice in the swarm is on his side. Two of the loudest, Carroc and Maarg, learned their lines years ago: an older brother's voice, worn smooth from repetition, telling Yoyo he's failing before he's had a chance to try. Being categorised into the bottom class of a school whose only criterion of success is academic ability only hands them more evidence, and Yoyo believes what they say. Long before ADHD had a diagnosis, before it had so much as a name, children like Yoyo simply had to survive being who they were, in a world that punished them for it. Yoyo doesn't plan. He doesn't strategise. Things happen to him: thoughts arrive sideways, secrets fall into his lap whether or not he's ready, and he's left scrambling to catch up with a world that already seems to know where it's going. That's exactly what starts happening the day a haunted island castle reveals four carved secrets: Stone · Silver · Tooth · Bone. Yoyo doesn't go looking for them; they come looking for him. And the swarm inside him, even the voices working against him, starts reacting to secrets faster than he can make sense of them, dragging him toward an answer he never set out to find. And this, even before the castle gives up its last secret, and the world finishes deciding, without his permission, who he's allowed to be.
